Helsing’s Fire hasn’t had the updates that other games on this list have had; after all, it is one of the newer titles. But, it is a fantastic budget title; 90 levels, Crystal integration and some intuitive puzzle gameplay. Don’t pass it up.

TanZen will easily suck away your time with its 522 puzzles. It’s a superb value puzzle game that allows you to have multiple puzzles on the go; and its relaxed, unpressured gameplay fits perfectly on the platform.

It debuted with only one map, which was why we marked Flight Control down. Happily, it doesn’t have that problem any more and so is the best introduction to one of the best, most intuitive control schemes for the device yet. Line drawers don’t get much better than this one.

Ninjatown was a great game when we initially reviewed it, but updates made it even better. We especially loved the 1,000 metre bomb which launches you to 1,000 metres to skip the initial, easier difficulty; the latest update brings Timed mode to the game which adds 15 seconds to the clock every 100 metres with 5 seconds knocked off if you hit an obstacle. The developers are promising more updates, but we could recommend this even without the additional content.

Initially, ZombieSmash had plenty of content for its £1.19 price point. New weapons, zombies, an easy mode and two new themes—easter and football—definitely has sealed the deal. We think it is the best Castle Defence game on the App Store to date.

Lacking in content no more, Minigore has transformed from single level blues into a deep game that has been updated many times. With new characters, environments and enemies, the game is a fantastic introduction to dual stick shooters; pick it up now to take advantage of the 59p pre-update price!

The dojo in Fruit Ninja is a fantastic addition; not only can you prove your skill via the OpenFeint achievements, you can also be rewarded with new blades and backgrounds that can be toggled on or off at a whim. With some sharp new blades that have been added via updates, this game is one of those going above and beyond what our expectations were.

Sometimes game developers will release a game with three modes; each varying sometimes, it seems, only by name. Tilt to Live has had updates that have introduced new gameplay ideas and each mode is distinctive in its own way. It’s one of the more expensive games on the list but don’t let that dissuade you; it really is a fantastic example of how games should be designed for the device.

Missing out on the top spot by a hair, Doodle Jump is an extreme example of value for money. Not only has the game been kitted out with new power ups including rocket packs, helicopter hats, bosses and many different types of obstacles, but there’s options to change the entire theme of the game too. Combined with a handful of secret codes you can use to further alter the game, it’s literally one that keeps giving and giving.

Angry Birds is easily one of the deepest games that you can buy today for 59p. Large extra content packs that could have easily been charged for via in-app purchase have instead been released free of charge and bundled with the game; it now contains 165 levels, with more to come. There’s a good reason why it has held its chart position; it is an amazing game at an amazing price.
