We posted the debut trailer for ZombieSmash! along with a little about the game last week, and after receiving a preview copy we’re ready to give some of our own thoughts on it.

Just a few months ago castle defence games were very popular on the App Store with Knights Onrush leading the pack, the heat has now died down around the genre, but it’s time for ZombieSmash! to (ironically) bring it back to life. You play as a lone survivor and have to defend yourself from the hordes of zombies writhing around your house. You fight back with your finger, using it to pick up and fling the zombies about: you can smash them into the ground; causing a great deal of damage, or simply flick them up in the air in a mad frenzy.
However, you not only have the power to move the zombies, but also an arsenal of over 20 weapons and special abilities to obliterate them. Mines, gigantic boulders, sniper rifles, grenades and liquid nitrogen are among the array of weapons at your disposal. These are very useful when you are stuck in tricky situations, and can help to destroy certain zombies (such as the huge ones which can’t be flicked). There is also an upgrade store where you can improve your weapons and build up your defences using stars you collect after killing each zombie.

ZombieSmash! has a 31 day campaign with altered scenarios for each day. Sometimes you’ll be defending one side of your house, and other times you’ll be defending both, it’s a small change that can give the gameplay a huge amount of variety. As you play through this month of zombie hell you unlock the weapons and abilities we mentioned earlier. Each of the levels are tailored around your new ability and the campaign sets you up for the Endless Siege Mode. Here you will use your weapons and skills to battle a never-ending onslaught of zombies to try and gain the highest score possible. With Crystal integrated you can fight to gain the number one spot on the leaderboards or attempt to gain some of the rather tricky achievements.
The SplatterEngine™ and amazing ragdoll physics that ZombieSmash! uses are something that is truly unique to the game. Zombies react to how you throw them about and as you smash them on the ground various limbs will tear off. The blood and gore are generated by the SplatterEngine™ depending on how you massacre the zombie, and creates a hilariously gruesome show. To really show off this engine Game Doctors have included a sandbox mode for you to destroy the zombies in any way you please.
We have to admit that ZombieSmash! is one of the best castle defence games we’ve played and it’s a serious contender to Knights Onrush. The game is set to be released later this month for the low price of £1.19 so make sure you watch out for it!
