There are many racing games on the iPhone at the moment; most of which can either be put into the category "arcade" or "sim", Dirt Moto Racing lies somewhere in between. You'll be riding your ATV around various tracks with realistic physics and collisions, but you're also able to do many tricks and stunts to earn boost in order to zoom in front of your opponents. We think that this hybrid between the two types of racers results in an excellent and addictive game, much like Resolution Interactive's previous racing game; Aqua Moto Racing.
Dirt Moto Racing is extremely heavy in content with eight tours increasing in difficulty and a single race mode. Each tour contains four races which are a mixture of the four race types; Race, Checkpoint, Sprint and Elimination. At the start of the game everything is locked so you have to play through the tours in order to unlock the races in single race mode and progress through the game. We think that having the whole game locked up to start with gives you a real incentive to play through the game, but a quick race mode would still be a great addition.
You will be put up against five opponents in every race in career mode, and you have to battle it out to be first in each one. Like most racing games you will get awarded a bronze, silver or gold medal for finishing in the top three but Dirt Moto Racing gives you a big reason to do well, even if you aren't that competitive: For every four medals you earn in career mode, you get one tuning point to improve your ATV. This means that instead of buying new and better ATVs, you'll be improving your own to make it faster, turn quicker, enhance its grip and upgrade many other features.

We found that Dirt Moto Racing's tracks are very well designed and have a big variety within the four environments. Throughout the tracks you'll find jumps to propel your ATV off and perform some of the various tricks to earn yourself boost. The stunts are carried out by either swiping in various directions on the screen, or tapping a button at the bottom. Using tuning points you can upgrade your lift so you can get some big air and perform multiple tricks in quick succession; earning yourself even more boost.
You use the accelerometer to control your ATV in Dirt Moto Racing which, following in Aqua Moto Racing's tracks, are some of the best tilt controls around. However we feel that it is always best to give the player options, and while you can adjust the sensitivity, there is no option to use touch controls. You will find options to change the difficulty of your opponents in the settings menu, which we found especially useful since we were easily winning against the opponents on normal, so hard or elite was a much bigger challenge.
The graphics in Dirt Moto Racing are surprisingly good, considering how smoothly the game plays. The characters and ATVs look great even close up and the environments are pretty detailed. The game also has some cool effects; tire tracks that appear behind your ATV as you drive along and splashing mud or sand when you speed around corners. There is a nice looking splashed paint frame around the screen which the HUD sits on, but while it looks good, it can become annoying after a while. Dirt Moto Racing features 12 music tracks for you to race to which are mostly rock and metal which we think fit really well. Alternatively you can listen to your own iPod music while keeping the sound effects.
We think that Dirt Moto Racing is a very polished and well thought out racing game with a ton of content and more is currently being added in updates. The only big thing that we can see to make Dirt Moto Racing any better is a form of multiplayer, whether it's local or online, it would improve the game tenfold. At the moment you can race against other players' ghosts in single race mode, in order to try and achieve the highest score in the world, but while it is a great feature, we think the competition doesn't seem very compelling. But for the price Dirt Moto Racing is an amazing game and can only get better. Recommended.
An excellent contender in the racing genre with a huge amount of content and very fun game play.
