We love explosions. Kabooma promises blowing levels to smithereens, total destruction and general mayhem. With goblins involved. We were intrigued - 59p later, we found out the true nature of the game.
Basically, Kabooma is a pipe dreams clone in where you must direct a flame along a gun powder trail to the kegs of dynamite at the other side. Doing this is a matter of rotating the powder tiles in 90 degree increments with a tap of your finger. As you'd expect, the controls work well - and some levels will require quick thinking to reroute the flame to get it to ignite the barrels.
Once you do complete a level, a flurry of explosions makes it's way quickly across the screen, and you'll move onto the next level. There are 20 levels in total, spread across four different worlds. But all this really boils down to is a slightly different tile look for the most part, and there's no special power ups. Beating a level once doesn't take very long, and if it weren't for the achievements system, there'd be absolutely no reason to replay. This isn't without it's problems either - because it's unclear what you have to do or how many times for each of them.

Statistic tracking is also included - but a better idea would be to merge the achievement medals with the statistic page just to see what the challenges were. Right now you'll replay levels and see that you've earned a new achievement without indication of what it was or how you did it. That's a little disappointing.
Kabooma promises a lot presentation wise - it does look gorgeous in stills. The explosions and sound effects are a bit meagre though, and for a game that promises destruction, we didn't feel like we got it.
This game has potential, but at most it will take you about 10-30 minutes to run through the campaign. With unclear achievements, we eventually gave up on the second time we completed the game. We'd like to recommend this one, as blowing stuff up is fun - but we're left wanting more than we got. Even for 59p.
A well presented distraction that could use some more features - it's horribly short too. It promises a bang and unfortunately delivers a spark.

Light Wars is visually superb, but it has a few caveats. We still think it's a good game overall.
