Simply put Minigore is a 3D survival shooter game. There are many games on the iPhone in this genre, such as iDracula, but Minigore brings something a little bit different to it. The game is a prequel to Mountain Sheep's upcoming game Hardgore and is set in the same surreal world as it. You play as John Gore, a little square fellow, and you have to defend yourself from the vicious and cute furries which are trying to kill you.

The game itself is very simple; you have to shoot the various types of furries coming at you to protect yourself. You control John Gore using virtual dual joysticks which has proven to work very well with these type of games and works extremely well in Minigore. There are 3 main types of furries: The tiny ones which die with one hit of your gun, the medium ones which burst into tiny ones when hit and the huge ones which blast into medium ones when you shoot them; they are basically furry Russian doll enemies and we think this adds a bit of the Asteroids formula to the game. There is also one other tricky enemy which is the flaming furry; it's fast and furious, and adds a harder challenge to the game since it can move faster than you can; so you can't just run away from it. We think that these enemies make Minigore a fun game and the different types keep the game interesting.

To kill these black furries you use can your default rapid-fire machine gun with unlimited ammo or one of the few power up weapons. As you kill the furries they will occasionally drop either a crate or a four-leaf clover. If you pick up the crate you will get a powerful double-barrel shotgun which you can blast the furries with, if, on the other hand, you shoot the crate, it will explode and fire a circle of bullets around it killing a ton of furries. If you pick up three four-leaf clovers you become a mighty beast. This power up will allow you to become invincible for a short amount of time and kill any enemies in your path, to top it off you'll be squashing the furries to some banjo music! If you find the game too easy you can go into the options menu and turn on expert mode, which makes more furries turn up, upping the games difficulty. You die after two hits in Minigore and after you get hit it changes John Gore's appearance which we think is an excellent way to show your health.

Minigore has some great graphics and as we said at the start of the review it has a very surreal environment. The level that you play in looks extremely good; the ground looks like it was hand painted and the flat 3D bushes and trees really add some style to the game. The characters themselves are the best part of the game though: John Gore is a little square-headed guy and watching him waddle along with his head bobbling is fantastic, the furries also look great and the blood splatters really fit the game style. All of the characters are rendered in full 3D and have a lot of polish; something that many games don't. One thing that the developers did decide to add, which adds some humor to the game, is the voice for John Gore. As you run around shooting furries he will say witty comments and if you get bored of them you can always turn them off in the options menu.

We think that Minigore is a great survival shooter but it lacks a lot of content. There is only one level and environment, and only one set of enemies. There is online scoring done by Open Feint so there is some competition, but in the end you are just playing the same level and mode over and over again to try and get a higher score. The game also doesn't have auto save which is really annoying since you could be far into a winning game - receiving a phone call means that you have to start again. The game is certainly fun and we think that with more content it could easily be better than iDracula, but at the moment it's just another survival shooter with great graphics. The developers video below shows off the game's fun gameplay and excellent graphics:

Grade: C, Good

A fun survival shooter with good graphics and its own surreal style. The lack of content and no auto save are the only things holding this back from being an excellent game, although it is definitely worth 59p.
