Pobs is a simple take on the classic game Hexxagon, clones of which can be found and played free of charge online. Similar in style to Othello (Reversi), this board game contains an array of hexagonal tiles. The player who captures the most tiles wins the game.
The controls work how you'd expect - tap on your piece to bring up the available moves - green tiles create a piece there, or yellow tiles move your piece without creating another one. You can only create duplicate pieces (or Pobs) if there is free space, otherwise you will have to jump the Pobs created by the opposition - either your mate or the rather tough AI that has three difficulty settings.
Even on easy, the AI isn't a pushover. It's nice too that you can have on device multiplayer as well as some levels having two opponents instead of one. Another good touch is that the game will automatically finish the game if the other opponent cannot make a move. Still, the graphics are rather basic, and with no real extra features added to the core game (each of the 6 modes being very much alike) it's hard to recommend a pick up when there are much more polished looking games of this type.
Pobs is, simply, basic. With gameplay still stuck in the 90s, it's value is only nostalgic. Yes, it plays well, but for this type of game to succeed the visuals have to be attractive enough to keep playing through - there are many far more inventive titles than this. Still, if you don't care about visual flair, the 15 levels in Pobs will keep you entertained.
Not a dislikable game, but rather basic. The presentation has a long way to come.
