Bumps is a cute puzzle game in which you have to rescue little Bumps that have been held hostage by aliens. Although that’s not much of a plot, don’t let the story dissuade you from this fairly solid game.

You rescue the coloured blobs by collecting keys that are scattered over 54 different levels; each key may only be collected by the Bump of the corresponding colour. Like iBlast Moki you place the bumps on the level and then release them at the tap of a button when you feel ready, but unlike that game a restart after a failed attempt forces you to place all of the little creatures again—frustrating especially if it was only a single Bump that was slightly off-position.

You move the Bumps with your fingers; although the larger blobs cannot be moved they can be pushed by other Bumps to collect keys. The game is quite forgiving with how you place your Bumps and it’s usually obvious where they go seeing as the levels can fit onto the screen without any zooming or panning.

This title comes with a few mini-games too; however they’re not really worth bothering with; a simple air hockey game, a superficial pinball game, a boring target practice game with aliens and an OK breakout game. Each of these concepts have been done before and a multitude of standalone titles exist already on the App Store; so why bother? Mini-games are only fun if they offer gameplay as equally compelling as the main game.

Bumps is one of the few GameSalad games that we’ve played that shows some polish and attention to detail. The presentation is fun and colourful and overall the game is a casual, light puzzler for the rest of us. Whilst it has its quirks the core of the game is worth the 59p; just don’t bother with the mini-games!

Grade: C, Good

A fun game that has some quirks, and some bad mini-games; but a good use of 59p for those fond of casual puzzling fun.
