Kill the Fly is a lighthearted game that involves you trying to protect a mound of dung from an ever increasing battalion of flies. It’s a truly silly concept that just manages to win a smile because of its crazy sound effects and brightly coloured visuals.
Squashing the larger insects earns you power ups which you can use as well as tapping repeatedly on the screen; bug spray that slows down and confuses the flies, a bug zapper, fly swatter and an amusing power that makes the flies fall in love and therefore useless. Combining the swatter and this last ability can yield some destructive results; you will need to use this to your advantage so that you don’t become overrun. In the massacre mode you get an ability that extinguishes the bug population by shaking the device; simply rack up kills to enable this weapon.
Simply mashing the screen as a catch all solution won’t work here; for one thing you lose a point for every tap that doesn’t find its mark, and also there’s hazards strewn about that “hurt” your digits if they are “sharp”, or that will simply cancel out a tap as bugs cannot be squashed directly above them.
Rounds in both game modes only last a minute and aren’t especially challenging; if you use the power ups wisely you shouldn’t have any problems. Replay value is encouraged through the use of OpenFeint achievements, but we weren’t honestly bothered with obtaining all of these. Once you’ve played a couple of rounds you’ll have seen all that you need to see; variety is not the game’s strongest suit.
Is it worth playing? We believe once you’ve played one bug squashing game, you’ve played them all (with the exception of Bed Bugs that involves more complex gestures) and so its worth a look if you haven’t played a game of this type before. But it’s an average game; we’ve covered many other games in this price range that are a whole lot more exciting. We’d advise you to try something else.
For 59p, Kill the Fly is a good distraction but, like the mound that you’re striving to protect, it only gets stale.

In need of a few final tweaks, but we can certainly recommend that you give Gravity Block a go.
