Whilst it may not be a game in the strictest sense of the word, Let’s create! Pottery HD employs some smart use of game mechanics like star ratings, collecting money, buying items and challenges for you to mirror exactly what the picture tells you to do. It is also one of the most meditative, relaxed experiences available, reminding us of titles such as Zen Bound 2 or Osmos and sometimes it’s nice to be able to take a break from many intense games that we like to cover.
It starts off as a fairly rudimentary lesson in shaping clay; the only customisation you’ll be able to do is on the wheel with your fingers. Pinching and expanding the clay feels very natural, and as you slide your finger up you manipulate the height of the spinning clay. You always feel like you’re in control. Once you’ve learned to make a couple of basic pots you’ll start to earn money, used to buy colour, ornaments and decorations for your pots; happily, you’ll always be tasked with pots that are easily within your budget to produce.
When you don’t have a client needing a pot, you can shape one of your own design, dressing it with suitable colours and ornaments which come in a wide variety of designs. You can either save these to your collection or auction them off; the result depends usually on how extravagant the design is, and once you’ve built up the funds you will be able to rake in cash to further your pool of designs.
Let’s create! Pottery HD is extremely easy to become addicted to; pots can take mere minutes to create, and if you’re creative then you can make some truly beautiful creations. Better still is the online networking; you can share pots with friends and via the official website that allows you to see and rate pots from the community.
Pick up this fluid, ambient experience and you’ll be rewarded with superb controls and an amazing new way to interact with your iPad. We were certainly (and pleasantly) surprised.
It’s nice to take a break once in a while; this app is addictive, relaxing and fun. Super graphics and controls make it pleasantly worth your while.
